Stern woke up and looked around. The harness that had restrained her for so long was off, and for a brief moment, Stern couldn't remember why that was. She had always slept in harness under Mr. Brisyen. She blinked, and everything came back in frightful clarity. The death, the gunshot, the blood... and the bomb. Stern looked around, but it seemed that everyone else was still sleeping. She didn't blame them, the last two days had been very fast-paced. She stood up and padded a bit away from the rest of the team before shaking the snow from her pelt.

Fluttering his ice cold eyes open Blue let out a small groan. Every muscle in his body ached and he didn't remember why, but as he lifted up his sore head and his gaze fell across a small pup like creature that looked like a wolf the male dog realised what had taken place the previous day. He had saved the team, and then got attacked by the mongrel who was still sound asleep. Turning over and whimpering slightly Blue licked some blood from his fur and sighed. He was still tired. Remembering the day before, and the generosity of the lead dog Stern Blue let out a small and warm smile to himself. He liked Stern. A lot. He had never met another dog like her, and even though they barely knew each other Blue felt as though he had known her for longer. Blue also felt like he could trust the lead dog with his life, and as soon as he realised she was awake the male closed his eyes. If it weren't for her, Blue would be dead. His blood staining the snow.

Stern turned around as she heard a groan from behind her. It was just Blue, waking up momentarily. She watched him looks around, then roll over, with a tender gaze. His eyes where closing again as Stern whispered, "Sleep well, my dears." She looks over her team with the gaze of a protective leader, hoping to keep them all together. This would be hard, but she would make it, hopefully with her team beside her.
Alusia was having the nicest dream in the world. She was curled up by the fire in Mr. Brisyen's cabin, next to Stern and the rest of her team. Nothing was wrong in the world, and it was so warm. She rolled over, not wanting to wake up.

Blue let out a small sigh as the warmth slowly crept out of him and made him wake up once again from his short slumber. Muttering curses under his breath Blue slowly stood up, one of his kegs was shaking uncontrollably though as he did so. It was the leg that had gotten caught up in the bomb and had gotten hurt. Whimpering Blue let his tail move between his legs in a submissive motion. He was facing the team, and was looking over them. He ouldwatch them closely, but Mouse closer. As he turned his head and his gaze settled on Stern's Blue slowly walked over, only occasionally putting his paw down. Standing beside Blue bent down in a submissive position like he always did when they woke up in the sled team. Licking her cheek and standing up straight Blue blinked, and smiled at her.

Stern smiled as Blue woke up. He might be injured, but she doubted that he would ever let her down. As he walked over to her, Stern pricked her ears and straightened her tail out behind her, watching him bow down in submission before relaxing and allowing him to lick her face. She returned the caress and then blinked at him, "Are you feeling alright after yesterday?" Her plumed tail waved slowly behind her, back and forth, like a pendulum.
Alusia heard lowered voices and rolled over again, unable to stay in her warm dream world any longer. She scrambled to her feet, somewhat clumsily, then shook out her fur, covering those dogs nearest to her with snow. She bounded over to Stern and Blue. She barked out, "Morning!" then tripped over her paws, rolling to a stop in front of the two adult dogs. She blinked up at them, a little bit sheepish, but more embarrassed. Her muzzle had a small pile of crystalline snow on it. "Em..."

Blue hesitates and then nodded. "I am, but I hurt." He murmured straightening up and lifting his paw from the ground. "I don't want to hold the team up though" He murmured looking at his paws. When the younger dog woke up Blue felt something pang in the pit of his stomach. Why that was was unknown Tobin. But, he thought that it was something to do with being alone with Stern. "Morning" Blue mumbled shakily sitting down.

Stern nodded, "You have every right to be sore. I won't forget what you did for the team, and I doubt anyone else ever will, either." She heard Alusia's greeting and turned to look, just in time to see the pup trip and somersault over to them. She chucked, "Be careful, pup." She turned back to Blue, "The team wouldn't mind being held up. At least, not by you."
Alusia sighed, "I'm sorry, Stern, Blue." She stood up again and shook her fur out, fluffing up the thick hairs her breed was known for. "Are we going to start moving today?" She looked pointedly at the brown circle, cleared of its snow, that was the only scar upon the otherwise pristine snow.

Looking up at Stern with puppy dog eyes. "You sure?" He murmured staring back at the blood stained patch where he had slept the previous night. Blue studied Alusia with his solemn eyes. He didn't want to keep the team behind, nor did he want to walk. Turning around Blue swished his tail from side to side and shrugged. "Its up to the lead dog. It always it." He mumbled. "I'm going for a walk" He barked limping away past the team and towards the snowy white plains. He needed to clear his head. He felt bad, but didn't know why.

Stern nodded, "I'll make sure of it, if I have to." She looked at Alusia and followed the pup's gaze to the area where the snow had been melted by the force of a bomb, "I'm not sure. I'm going to see what shape everyone is in this morning, and if everyone's feeling okay, we'll start making our way slowly towards some water." She watched Blue limp away, "Okay."
Alusia nodded farewell to Blue as the beta limped away, then listened to Stern, "Okay!" She turned and loped away, thankfully not tripping... not yet, at least.

Breifly looking behind him at Stern Blue hung his head low and layed down in the snow, not wanting to go on further than he had too Blue sighed. He had absolutely no idea what he was feeling, or why he was feeling it but either way the feeling growing inside his chest made him all fuzzy. And made him hurt. Rolling onto his back Blue looked up at the sky, his tail hanging limply instead of wagging like it normally did. He was down.

Stern watched Blue go, feeling some tightness in her muscles recede. She hadn't noticed it, but now that it was gone, she did. Her heart beat faster whenever Blue was around, although she couldn't explain why. She felt tenser, but it wasn't as if she was about to fight. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. Why? She looked up as a cloud covered the sun, feeling its shadow cool her pelt. Why did she feel like this? She couldn't have feelings for him! She had to stay strong for the team, stay the same level-headed leader she had been while Mr. Brisyen was alive.

Rolling onto his side and slowly standing up Blue continued a bit more, his leg still lifted securely off the ground as he went. He wasn't going to travel to far, no way. He would loose the team and be on his own, he didn't want that to happen. Hearing a storage noise Blue's head whipped around to spot a hare nibbling some leaves poking out from the snow a few feet away. It had it's back to him. Smiling gleefully Blue crept towards it until he was centermeters away, before he lunged forwards and bit down on it's neck. Blood began oozing into his mouths hd picked the now dead animal up and limped back to the team dropping the hare at Stern's feet. "For the team." He said, hs tongue flopping out of his mouth slightly.

Stern looked back down to earth as she heard a snap in the pristine silence. Blue was padding towards her again, with a lapine dangling from his jaws. The white pelt was marred with fresh blood, and the scent of warm, fresh meat preceded Blue up towards Stern. As Blue dropped the hare by her feet, Stern wagged her tail, "Good idea. They will be hungry." She licked his muzzle, "Thank you." She should probably go start hunting more meat for the team, but she instead savored the minutes alone with Blue. It might be wrong, but hadn't she done enough for the team? When would it stop demanding from her?

Blue blinked at the sudden contact between him and the lead dog, yet didn't move away. His chest felt like any moment now it was going to burst, and as he dropped the limp rabbit from his jaws and licked the blood off his lips he felt almost as though he could melt. Something, something made him like the lead dog. She was always there for him. Always, comforting when Reddied and helpful when he almost got blown up. "I....T..Thanks" Blue stammered feeling flushed and hot. "I..I think I should get some more.." He mumbled to himself.

Stern watched Blue, concerned. He was deep in thought, she could tell that much, but what he was thinking about, she had no idea. Could he feel her heart pounding, pounding on and on? "Credit where credit is due." It was her usual way of demurring from thanks like his, one of her many mottoes. "You don't have to, if your leg is paining you. I can go instead, if you need a rest." She had to get away from him and figure out what was going on. This couldn't be happening! Not to her, she had to stay level. No matter what she wanted for herself, the team needed her, not just as the way-finder, but as the leader now.
