As the physical contact of the lead dog and Blue became ever so more common, so did the skips and beats of the male's heart as he was by her side. Blue had never felt this feeling before, and had never known what it meant when he felt that warm fuzzy feeling in his body. Truth was, Blue had never loved another dog apart from his sister. He had never let himself do so. He felt like he could not let Red down, and could not let his heart stray away from his blind sister. Now, he could feel it. Now he could sense her, but he didn't know how to put it in words. How could he? He was a lower dog, an inferior to Stern. She probably got this a lot with her subordinates and he just couldn't bring himself to do so. Though, something was driving him forwards, something was making him do so. "Um, Stern.." Blue murmured hoping to catch her attention.

Stern turned to look at the dog at her side as he spoke her name, "Yes, Blue?" She turned her body so that she was facing him, her blue and brown eyes fixed upon him. She did not stare at him as she usually did with those on her team, keeping herself from blinking until they turned away. Instead, she simply watched his face, feeling her eyelids close every now and then. There was no need to stare this dog down, at least, not right now. They had gotten closer and closer the past few hours, and Stern no longer felt the need to assert her authority each time they spoke. At the most, not around him. She kept this new, softer side of her away from the general team, saved it for moments where they were alone, like right now.

As Stern turned there was an instant wave of feeling rising up in him when the lead dog did not decide to stare him out like she did with the subordinate and lessees from the sled team's other members. "S...Stern...I....I like you Stern..." Blue whimpered, shaking slightly and sitting down in the snow. Blue could hear the ramblings and screetchings of Mouse as he awoke and shouted at some others. He was in a bad mood obviously. Blue did not know I he would get another chance to speak to Stern without the team around, or if one of the two would die in the journey home but be really did not care at that time. He had to tell her how he felt. He had to, or it would kill him and cripple his heart. "I..I love you Stern.." Blue murmured.

Stern's ears flicked as Blue started talking. As he finished, she looked away, at the horizon, not sure what to say. He had said exactly what she had been feeling, but she knew it wasn't possible. She looked towards the team and saw Mouse wake up. That pup was irritating her already. She was leaning towards driving him away, but she didn't need to do it yet. She sighed, "I don't know what to say, Blue." Should she admit that she felt the same way, and let things take their course, or should she keep her distance from him, which would probably be better for the team? The team was always demanding, Blue would probably understand if she didn't take that much time for him. "The thing is, Blue, I feel the same way."

Staring at his paws when Stern replied and feeling suddenly fuzzy Blue lifted up his head. "Y...you do?" He asked, his eyes watching Sterm hoping tha she was being serious and that she wasn't just messing with him. A lot if dogs just messed with him, pretended to take him seriously but really not caring at all. Though, Stern always had what was best for the team in her mind. And Blue, was most likely not in that list. If Stern did keep her distance, Blue wouldn't mind that much he would just be a little, sad. Turning his head at Mouse who was now chasing a bird, barking at the top of his vocal chords Blue narrowed his eyes at the half wolf half dog and dug his claws in the cold and wet ground.

Stern nodded and smiled slightly, just a hint of the happiness, "Yes..." She paused, not knowing whether she wanted to spoil the moment by listing the reasons it would be hard to be like other pairs. She had too much responsibility, especially with that infernal pup. She growled slightly, remembering the altercation that had taken place earlier on. She had hoped it would help, but he still seemed not to care much for the rest of the team, "Why does he stay with us if she doesn't care for anyone here anyway?" She looked at Blue, wondering about his opinion on the subject.

Blue shrugged, feeling slightly awkward with the sudden confessions between the two dogs. "It most likely because he feels like he doesn't want to be alone and he is fed up of fending for himself. I know I would be if I were him, and I know that he was pathetic when he came here. So he is at least getting better." Blue barked studying Mouse from afar as the pp started to chase his own tail before falling over his own paws.

Stern watched Blue, trying to understand how he could be so calm and try to figure out how the dog tat had attacked him felt. Only he would be like that, and that was a part of what she liked about him, his ability to detach himself and look at every aspect. "Maybe that is it, but still. He could go find any number of strays around here and start a life, but he chose to come into our pack." She had to admit that Mouse was fitting in better after their confrontation, "Well, a little bit, I guess. He is getting along better with the others."

"Well, maybe he got chased out from their packs? Or maybe there is only the one pack that he came from? He never really said did he?" Blue barked awkwardly staring at his paws. "Well, Stern...we both like each other...and you know...what now?" He asked, sitting down and looking up at the lead dog, his eyes solemn.

Stern shrugged, "Perhaps. Who knows?" She considered that for a minute, "Do you think I should ask him about it, or just leave him be?" She watched Blue as he stuttered over his words, "I'm not sure... Um..." She knew what he would probably think, but she wasn't sure if she was ready for that big step. Pups would probably not be a good idea right now. They wouldn't survive, and she needed to be ready for anything, especially with the new addition to the pack, obviously. She sighed, this would be a hard time, but she should have known that.

Blue looked down at his paws, before resting his head on them and half closing his eyes. "If it were me I wouldn't want anyone to know." He barked. Blue didn't really tell many people about his past. It was generally something he kept quiet because of the bullying he had when he was a pup. And the struggle to keep alive in the pound. In fact, Red was the only other person who knew about his past was Red as she was there. Though sadly, she was deceased now. Died under the shed. It brought tears to his eyes when he thought about it and made him whimper and cover up his sadness. Unable to resist the temptation to cry Blue turned around, and let the tears flow freely from his eyes and down his fur, into his mouth. Tasting the salty taste.

Stern dipped her head, "You are probably better at feeling like other dogs, or wolves, so I'll trust your judgment. I won't ask him for now." She saw tears start to form in his eyes, and wondered how his train of thought had gone. As he turned away from her, Stern stepped around him and faced him again. Gently, she licked his face, washing it and drying his tears, "Blue, don't cry. I know it's hard, and it must be hard for you, but we can keep going. We will make it through, you will see. Please, don't cry."

Blue let out a small smile, and rested his tail on Stern's. "I know Stern. I try, so so hard. I miss Red, I miss everyone" Blue whined . "No one knows what I've been through in my life, no one but Red and now she is dead and gone" He murmured scooting slightly more to Stern. He didn't really know what to say or do. The team needed no pups at the time, so mating for him would be out of the question despite how much Blue loved Stern. Raising his eyebrows slight yams smiling slightly sheepishly Blue let his tail wag slightly.

Stern sighed, "If I said I knew how you were feeling, I would most likely be lying. No one knows how you feel, Blue, but if you need to talk to someone, I'll always be there for you." She leaned against him, letting her body heat mingle with his. She would be there for the entire team, but only for Blue did she feel this strongly. She should have guessed he had been thinking about Red, "She isn't gone, you know. Not really. The team will remember her strength, her courage, and her loyalty, and she will live on, in all of us." She licked his muzzle once more.

Nodding in agreement Blue lifted his head up, to stare into the pearly White sky. If Red was up there, then she would be his guardian angel. "Stern, you do realise that when we were puppies our mother got killed one day sledding, and our father abused us. When he died, our owner was grief stricken, so she sold us make money. She didn't even know she sold us to the pound. We got put in with many other dogs, that bullied us until we almost died. It's how Red turned blind, they wouldn't let us eat or drink. Malnutrition took over. If he didn't take us we wouldn't be alive." Blue barked, jerking his head to where the bloodied body was of his former owner. "No other dog but Red knows my past.." He murmured.
